How do I get to the BVI's?

The lack of any direct flight is a blessing in disguise. The island terrain does not allow enough land to build a full-sized airstrip, therefore, flights are strictly limited to small commercial and private planes. While this does curtail the tourist economy, it also secures the location as a safe haven for sailors and divers for years to come.

Daily non-stop flights are available out of most major US cities to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The main carrier from Puerto Rico to Tortola is American Airlines

By Air:

It is a 25 minute flight by commuter plane from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Tortola in the BVI. There are several airlines including Cape Air, Caribbean Sun and American Eagle who fly several flights each day to and from Tortola. Your flight will actually arrive on Beef Island, a small island outcropping off the north point of the big island of Tortola. The airport is connected to the main island of Tortola by a short bridge.

By Sea:

Alternately, you may fly to St. Thomas, USVI and take the 40 minute Ferry Boat ride. The Ferry departs Charlotte Amalie - St. Thomas to Road Town BVI. Schedule available at 1 (800) 835-8530.
